Democracy from Weimar:
The National Assembly of 1919
Special Exhibition of the City Museum of Weimar for the 95th Anniversary of the Weimar National Assembly
In February 2014, a new special exhibition on the history of the National Assembly of 1919 opened in the City Museum of Weimar.
Curator: Dr. Alf Rößner
An important chapter in the history of German democracy was written in Weimar in 1919. From 6 February to 21 August, Germany’s constituent National Assembly convened in the German National Theater. The special exhibition highlights this event’s equally local and nationwide significance, illustrating the promising beginnings of the Weimar Republic after World War I. A wide range of original objects, films, posters, models, medals, and documents of the time help visitors visualize how the political forces of the Weimar era wrestled to determine the future of Germany.
