The British Government lifts restrictions on imports to Germany. This ends the blockade that had started during World War I and cut Germany off from raw materials and food imports. [Overesch/Saal, p. 64]

In St. Germain, Austria, the successor state to the country that was once Germany’s ally, signs the peace treaty with the Allies. In the Treaty, Austria agrees to recognize the independence of Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Yugoslavia. Furthermore, Austria must cede numerous territories such as South Tyrol, Istria, Dalmatia, Trieste, and parts of Carinthia and Carniola to its southern neighbors. Austria is prohibited from political union with the German Reich. [Kolb, p. 35]
