6 October
Seeckt is forced to step down as Head of the Heeresleitung at the insistence of Defence Minister Geßler and Reichspräsident Hindenburg. The reason for this is Hohenzollern Prince Wilhelm’s participation in a Reichswehr maneuver which had not been approved first by the Defence Minister and Reichspräsident. Relations between the Reich leadership and Seeckt had previously deteriorated due to his open opposition to the government’s Locarno policy and disputes with Reichspräsident Hindenburg over their respective areas of authority.
