The terms of the Treaty of Versailles enter into force. From this point forward, Germany is obliged to comply with the peace conditions set out in the Treaty of Versailles.

The USPD creates more unrest by staging a mass demonstration and then attempting to storm the Reichstag building in Berlin. The Berlin government was already in a difficult situation due to a railway workers’ strike and miners’ demands for six-hour shifts. It cannot get the situation under control until it imposes a state of emergency.

The Dutch government refuses to extradite the former German Kaiser Wilhelm II. This means that he can continue living in exile in the Netherlands.

An attempt is made on the life of Finance Minister Matthias Erzberger in Berlin. Erzberger survives. In February, the assassin is sentenced to 18 months in prison.
