AEG, Hapag, Luftschiffbau Zeppelin, and Metallbaugesellschaft Frankfurt am Main merge to form Aero Union AG. The companies cooperate under the holding company in the airplane and Zeppelin construction sectors as well as in aviation.

The last empress and wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II dies in the Netherlands. Augusta Victoria is buried in Potsdam on 19 April. Ludendorff and Hindenburg are present during the burial.

The Reich government requests the mediation of the American government of President Warren G. Harding in the gridlocked reparations negotiations and promises to abide by the decision of the American president. The US rejects this offer and calls for direct negotiations with US participation.

The Proletarische Theater is closed down by Berlin’s police commissioner after the première of “Wie lange noch, du Hure bürgerliche Gerechtigkeit” by Franz Jung.

In Tirol, a referendum is held on becoming part of Germany. The people vote in favor of this, with 132,000 votes for and 1,700 votes against.
