The Reich government announces its decision to set up a German-Austrian customs union. This plan, however, is opposed by France and Great Britain from the start. They see this as part of Germany’s preparations for annexing Austria and becoming a great power. At the suggestion of Great Britain, the customs union issue is passed on to the Court of International Justice in The Hague to be verified.
