The Allies decide to not vacate Cologne, a process due to begin on 10 January, claiming that Germany has violated the disarmament terms in the Treaty of Versailles.

The swearing in of the conservative-bourgeois government led by Reichskanzler Hans Luther (independent) puts an end to the difficulties in forming a government which followed the Reichstag elections of 7 December 1924. The DNVP, the DVP, the Center Party and the BVP are all part of the government.
