Reichskanzler Brüning plans to extend the Reichspräsident’s term of office and holds initial talks on this with Hindenburg. As a two-thirds majority is needed in the Reichstag to implement the envisaged constitutional amendment, Brüning conducts talks in the following weeks with several parliamentary groups. He is unable to convince the opposition of his plans.

A decree enacted by Defence Minister Wilhelm Groener now enables NSDAP members to join the Reichswehr. KPD supporters, however, are still denied admission to the military.
